How to lose body fat percentage quickly – Understanding the body

How does the body lose fat? I’m guessing most of us are interested and maybe want to lose some.

Losing it quickly is relative though. Some may see quickly as one or two weeks, others may see it as a month or two. Generally speaking 1.5-2lbs (<1kg) is seen as a healthy amount to lose per week.

Losing excess body fat isn’t just about losing weight, in fact, it could be you want to gain weight but reduce your body fat percentage.

This website will give you a basic understanding of the body and that in turn will lead to achieving your goals. We’ll look at understanding how the body stores fat, when it breaks it down, whether you are male or female, how old you are, nutrition, how to lose body fat with diet and exercises

You can’t choose where you reduce or lose excess body fat. Your body decides that for you.

In an ideal world, we’d love to be able to choose which areas of the body to lose excess fat, unfortunately, it’s not like that. You can’t just target belly fat, do hundreds of sit-ups and get rid of it. In fact, sit-ups will do very little for you in any sort of fat loss. The muscle group isn’t big enough to burn enough calories.

Body fat loss comes from one of two things or both:

  • Reduction in calorie intake – diet
  • Burning more calories – exercise.

You need to burn more calories than you consume; a calorie deficit.

We’ll look at both these but firstly we’ll discuss the body in the next post.

  1. Hmm, I have definitely heard and noticed that people don’t choose where they gain or lose their body fat. You have that statement listed as a “myth”, meaning the statement isn’t true, but then there isn’t any more information to state how that could be wrong. Am I missing a piece of this puzzle? That would really turn the fitness world on its head if we had figured out how to target fat in specific places. Looking forward to your response!

    • Aly thank you for your comment, you are quite right, it certainly would! It is not a Myth it is a Fact, I will update my typo accordingly. Thanks for pointing it out.

  2. THANK YOU so much for your website! I have been trying to lose weight for the past 3 months. and instead I have been gaining 2 kilograms per week???!!! How is that possible???
Reduced bread, white flour, pastries, sweets, increased amount of water. It’s been a very strange process for me. Don’t even know what to do next as the methods I mentioned didn’t help up until now.

    • Hi Sunny, thanks for the comment. I’m glad you like it. Yes, weight loss can be a very tricky beast and not everyone is the same. Are you exercising as well as dieting? If not you could try to incorporate some into your week. You also mention that you have been trying for the last 3 months, how successful have you been with the calorie intake? have you tried counting how many calories you have a day? You also mentioned water intake. The body can sometimes hold excess water which will not help with weight loss. Other factors to consider are hormone imbalances which can play a huge part in weight gain/loss.

  3. Hi James, I’m pleased to meet you. This is just short, brief and straight to the point. Awesome! Well, losing body fat percentage is a challenge but I like the two clear points you outlined; reduction in calorie intake and burning more calories. These are clear and straightforward. It’s a pity that you can’t target belly fat. Can you recommend any supplements for general weight loss?

    • Hi Kokontala, pleased to meet you as well. Thank you for your comments. I agree, it would be amazing if we could, unfortunately, belly fat tends to be the last place to go. However, exercise and diet will eventually help. Supplements by themselves without exercise or a structured diet won’t necessarily work by themselves. There isn’t a quick fix. However, I am in the process of reviewing supplements and when I am finished I will get back to you. Any further questions feel free to message me. James
